The Group
The first Capanna company was established in the middle of 19th Century and several other Companies
succeeded during the long period of time up to present days.
The main activity of these Companies had always been connected with Marine matters and, to this regard,
in 1937, Capanna was appointed Lloyd’s Agent in Livorno (Leghorn) with a vast district covering initially
most of the central-northern part of Italy, which was then enlarged to Sicily and the south-western part of
Italy. Recently, Capanna has also been appointed Lloyd’s Agent in Rome and Bari, covering almost all the
central-southern part of Italy.
Subsequently, due to the enterprise and initiative of Guglielmo (William) Capanna and his son Giovanni,
the activity expanded into other fields of business, and Insurance prevailed in its varied forms.
In 2005 Giovanni Capanna was also appointed Average Agent and Surveyor by CESAM, the French
Technical Committee through which professional services are provided to major Marine Insurers and their
customers, ship owners, carriers and exporters.
All the Companies were under the same corporate name Capanna Group of Companies which lasted for
many past years.
In December 2015, Capanna decided to refresh its image by means of a logo which might better identify
the present position of the Group in the market, giving more visibility to the people working for Capanna
and it was decided that the new corporate name would be
where Capanna is confirmed to be a long standing name in the Market, underlining that the added values
are the People working directly or indirectly for Capanna.
Capanna People corporate name is also intended to describe the widening services that the Capanna
Companies can offer to the Market, including but not limited to the promotion of a more integrated
relationship between Placing and Claims Handling, where Claims people assist Placing by means of risk
assessment and loss prevention activities, detailed analysis on reserves, accurate review of insurance
wording, etc.
Capanna People is also active on claims handling for Clients totally and/or partially self-insured, also
intended to certify their past claims history for insurance purposes.

IVASS has repealed the prohibition on transferring claims-only portfolios
